Selecting Our Projects
We keep a close pulse on the South Carolina business climate through our affiliation with the SC Chamber of Commerce. During the Chamber's Annual Grassroots Tour, we ask the business community to help us select the top two issues they'd like the Foundation to focus on in the coming year. With that input and insight, we organize research teams and projects to generate solutions to our top business challenges.
Our objective is to deliver helpful data, white papers, and reports for the business community and others to learn from and act on. We don't use our resources to prepare legislation or directly influence legislation.
Our 2020-2021 Projects
For 2020-2021 we are coordinating, conducting, and compiling research on property tax reform.
Property Tax Reform Study
The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina Realtors Association came together with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy to look into the complex, inequitable, and uncompetitive property tax system.
Our 2018-2019 Projects
For 2018-2019, we coordinated, conducted, and compiled research on health care and tax reform.
Our business community-led task force worked to further understand employer healthcare issues, to host idea-sharing conferences and presentations, and to develop policy ideas and other actionable insights.
Tax Reform Roadmap
Our local task force worked with outside experts at the Tax Foundation based in DC to review, analyze, and make recommendations for tax reform that would make our local tax code more competitive for investment and job creation.
